If you’re craving an adults-only, all-inclusive in Jamaica that feels genuinely upscale without feeling stuffy, Excellence Oyster Bay (EOB) might be your place. After falling hard for Excellence Playa Mujeres in 2021, my husband and I did what any Excellence-obsessed couple would do. We immediately planned the next trip.
We had history in Jamaica already. We honeymooned at Sandals Negril and we’ve popped into the island on cruise stops over the years. But we hadn’t done a true Jamaica stay in a while, and EOB kept calling my name.
Spoiler: I loved it. Like, “I’m already plotting my return” loved it.
Quick resort snapshot (who I think this is perfect for)
Let’s start with the big picture, because not every resort fits every traveler.
I believe Excellence Oyster Bay is best for:
- Couples who want a romantic trip, but still like a little energy by the pool
- Friend groups who want beautiful spaces, great service, and easy dining
- Travelers who care about value, but still want an elevated, luxury feel
If your dream Jamaica trip is a huge, wide beach where you walk for miles, EOB may not be your top pick. But if you want a gorgeous adults-only resort with a “never felt crowded” vibe, this one delivers.
The layout: a peninsula resort that feels spacious
One thing that really stood out to me at Excellence Oyster Bay is the peninsula layout. The resort is long and narrow, which means it feels more spread out than some other all-inclusives.
The main lobby and many restaurants are centered in the main building area, and the finishes felt elegant and sophisticated. It has that polished Excellence look that makes you feel like you picked something special.
My opinion on Excellence Club here
Here’s what I always tell my clients: Excellence Club is not always a must, but at EOB it’s a strong “yes” for a lot of travelers.
Why? Because EOB has two Excellence Club areas, which is unique:
- Zenith on one end of the resort
- Magna on the other end
Each has its own:
- Pool
- Lounge space
- Restaurant
And neither ever felt overly busy when we were there. If you like having a quieter home base away from the main pool scene, this is a big win.
Getting there: airport strategy I’d do again
EOB is about 45 minutes from the airport, and we used the included Seasons transfer. I’m a big fan of private transfers in Jamaica. It makes arrival feel smooth, and you start vacation mode faster.
We also used Club Mobay at the airport, and I would do that again in a heartbeat.
What I liked about it:
- Arrival help that takes you past the long customs line
- Lounge access while waiting for your transfer
- On departure, a lounge after security with food and drinks
If you’re traveling during a busy season or you just hate standing in lines, this is one of those upgrades that pays for itself in peace of mind.
Pool and beach: what it’s really like
The main pool (fun without feeling chaotic)
The main pool area was fantastic, and it had that classic Excellence feel: beautiful design, a swim-up bar, and always some kind of activity happening.
What I loved is that it naturally split into two vibes:
- A quieter side where you can relax
- A livelier side with music and pool events
And the best supporting character of the pool scene?
The Jerk Hut (yes, you’re going to eat here)
Right by the pool is an awesome Jerk Hut with casual favorites like:
- Jerk chicken
- Burgers
- Fries
It was yummy, and it’s exactly what I want between swimming and sun time.
The beach (my honest take)
The beach at EOB is narrow in some spots. When we went (July), we didn’t see much seaweed, but there was seagrass in the ocean in certain areas. There are definitely spots where you can swim comfortably, but it’s not the same as a wide open, powdery beach stretch.
That said, the best beach setup in my opinion was near the beach houses and beach villas. And the Excellence Club beach area had Bali beds that we loved. It felt relaxing, easy, and never packed.
Rooms: why EOB is fun to book
Excellence Oyster Bay has room categories that feel different than other Excellence properties, which is a big reason I enjoyed it.
We stayed in an Excellence Club Rooftop Terrace Suite with Plunge Pool Ocean Front, and it was a memorable splurge.
What made it special:
- Top floor views with a great vantage point
- Two distinct spaces: a living area and a separate bedroom
- A balcony with a plunge pool, chairs, and a day bed
- Sliding doors from both rooms that opened out to the terrace
Other room types I’d consider (depending on your travel style)
If you’re choosing rooms at EOB, here are the ones I think are worth a close look:
- Beach Houses: Four rooms per “house” (two up, two down), beachfront, plunge pools
- Private pool rooms: First floor options with larger pool-style setups
- Beach Villas: The top-tier choice with private pools and butler service

Spa, food, and the overall vibe (why I rated it 5 stars)
Spa: a can’t-miss experience
We loved the spa at EOB, and the hydrotherapy circuit was a highlight of the trip.
As Excellence Club guests, we received a complimentary Aqua Hydrotherapy Session, and it was honestly amazing. Hot and cold experiences, water therapies, and that full-body reset you don’t realize you need until you do it.
Even if you are not Excellence Club, you still get hydrotherapy access when you book a spa service, which I think is a great value.
Food: better than expected, easy to sample
The food was really good, and I appreciated that portions were often smaller. At an all-inclusive, that means you can do what we did and order multiple dishes without feeling wasteful.
There are 10+ restaurants, and the biggest difference I noticed versus Excellence Playa Mujeres was this: we never had a wait for dinner, even when occupancy was high. It simply never felt crowded.
One standout you do not find at other Excellence resorts is Caribbean Groove. We really enjoyed it.
<callout type="tip" title="My favorite way to "taste" an all-inclusive"> Do appetizers at one restaurant, then go somewhere else for your main and dessert. It’s fun, it keeps the night moving, and you’ll experience more of the resort.
Drinks and nightlife
Drinks were consistently strong, and our in-room options were kept stocked and replenished.
Bars were happy to make off-menu requests too, which I always appreciate. I will say, if you love a lively martini bar scene, this one felt quieter than the vibe at Excellence Playa Mujeres. Not bad, just different.
Entertainment: pleasant, not overwhelming
Each night had something going on, including:
- Live music
- Shows
- Silent disco
- Casino nights
During the day, there were games and music at the main pool. I’m a cruise girl too, so I’ll be honest: resort entertainment is rarely going to compete with a big ship production. But I come to all-inclusives to relax, and EOB struck a nice balance.
My final verdict: why I’d book this again
I gave Excellence Oyster Bay 5 stars, and I’d absolutely recommend it, especially if you want an adults-only resort that feels upscale and never “too much.” For me, the magic was the combination of:
- The spread-out peninsula layout
- The two Excellence Club areas (unique and genuinely useful)
- Great food options with minimal waits
- A relaxing vibe that still has energy when you want it
- Excellent value for the level of luxury
