Excellence just threw a little curveball at all of us: Excellence El Carmen is now officially called Excellence Carmen Punta Cana.
I genuinely did not have that on my bingo card. The name is what’s changing, not the experience. But as someone who books more Excellence Collection trips than I can count, I have… thoughts.
Why they changed it (and why I actually get it)
At first glance, it feels like a random rebrand. But when you zoom out, it makes a lot of sense.
Excellence has been getting smarter about making resort names instantly tell you the “where,” especially for travelers who are new to the brand. A great example is Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres opening next to Excellence Playa Mujeres. That “Playa Mujeres” piece is doing a lot of work for clarity.
And honestly, “El Carmen” never screamed Punta Cana to first-timers. If you don’t already know the brand, it’s not obvious whether you’re looking at Mexico, DR, or somewhere else entirely.
So yes, Excellence Carmen Punta Cana makes it crystal clear where you’re headed.
What’s not changing (the part you actually care about)
According to Excellence, the only change is the name. That means:
- Same adults-only, all-inclusive setup
- Same overall vibe and layout
- Same suite concepts people book for (swim-ups, private pools, rooftop terraces)
- Same food, bars, service standards, and the Miilé Spa
So if you’ve been to Excellence El Carmen before and you’re thinking of going back, you’re not walking into a “new” resort. You’re walking into your same vacation, just with a longer name.
My slightly dramatic travel-agent problem: my acronyms
Let me be real for a second. This is going to take me a minute to get used to.
For years, my shorthand has been EEC (Excellence El Carmen). Now I’m over here rewriting notes, updating quote templates, and mentally retraining my brain to say ECPC (Excellence Carmen Punta Cana).
Do I love the clarity for travelers? Yes.
Do I love changing a habit that’s baked into my day-to-day? Not even a little.
If you’re planning a trip, here’s what you should do right now
This name change is simple, but it can create confusion when you’re pricing, comparing, or double-checking a reservation.
A few practical tips I’d give you if we were chatting over coffee:
- If you see “Excellence El Carmen” on a third-party site, don’t panic. Some platforms will take a while to update. It’s still Excellence Carmen Punta Cana.
- If you’re comparing resorts, don’t mix up Excellence Punta Cana and Excellence Carmen Punta Cana. Different locations, different layouts, different feel.
- If you’re already booked, your reservation is fine. The resort didn’t change, the name did.
- If you’re saving Pinterest boards and TikToks, start searching both names for a while. You’ll get more complete results during the transition.

This part makes me laugh, because the first resort I ever filmed a YouTube walkthrough for was Excellence El Carmen.
So now I’m officially the person with a “vintage” video title on the internet.
It’s still a helpful look at the property if you’re trying to get your bearings before booking, and yes, we’ve improved our filming since then, but the bones of the resort and the overall feel are absolutely still relevant.

I think Excellence Carmen Punta Cana will make it easier for new Excellence fans to understand exactly where this resort sits on the map, and that’s a win. It just means the rest of us need a little time to rewire our brains.
