Finest Punta Cana Family All Inclusive Review

I walked into Finest Punta Cana thinking I knew exactly what I was going to say.

I’ve stayed all over the Excellence Collection, and I’m usually the person waving couples toward the adults-only Excellence resorts without hesitation. So when I booked this trip for June 2026 and left my two boys at home, I assumed I’d be spending the week thinking, “This is lovely… but it’s still a family resort.”

What happened instead genuinely surprised me.

This is my Finest Punta Cana Family All Inclusive Review from the perspective of a travel advisor who knows the Excellence brand inside and out, and from the perspective of a mom who loves family travel… who also really loves a quiet pool and a good glass of wine.

If you’re trying to decide whether Finest Punta Cana is right for your family, your multi-generational group, your wedding, or even a couples trip without kids, let me walk you through what it actually feels like on property and then I’ll tell you exactly who I think should book this resort, and who I’d steer elsewhere.

Before we get into the fun stuff, here’s how Finest “works”

Finest is the family-friendly personality in the Excellence Collection. If you’re newer to the brand, here’s the quick version:

• Beloved: boutique, couples-only
• Excellence Resorts: adults-only (18+)
• Finest Resorts: family-friendly and multi-generational

What I appreciate is that Finest Punta Cana doesn’t feel like an adults-only resort that tossed in a kiddie pool as an afterthought. The property was designed to let families be families, but it still carves out real, usable space for adults to exhale.

And at this specific resort, understanding the room tiers is everything.

The three “lanes” you can book here

Most confusion comes from the word Club. There are really three experiences:

1. Finest Suites (non-club)
2. Finest Club Suites (family club)
3. Excellence Club (adults-only section, 18+)

Here’s the nuance that matters: if you book Finest Club, the adults in your party can use the adults-only Excellence Club areas, but the kids cannot.

So if you’re traveling with kids and you still want that quieter grown-up side for an hour or two each day, Finest Club can be the sweet spot.

And if you’re an adult couple without kids… keep reading, because this is where my biggest surprise lives.

Getting there: an easy arrival, and a tip I wish more travelers knew

Finest Punta Cana is about a 40-minute drive from PUJ.

We did a VIP airport arrival (they meet you, private immigration line, help with bags). Important note: that VIP service is a paid airport upgrade booked separately, not through the resort. If airports stress you out, it’s one of those “money well spent” extras.

Also, because I book my clients directly with Excellence, you get complimentary roundtrip airport transfers. It’s one of those perks that people accidentally skip when they DIY their booking.

First impressions: modern, polished, and it feels expensive in the best way

The first thing you notice is how new and contemporary the whole resort feels. Open, bright lobby. Gorgeous landscaping. Clean lines. Everything feels very intentional.

It’s also worth knowing the resort sits right next door to Excellence Carmen Punta Cana (you may remember the old name, Excellence El Carmen). They’re close-close. Like, you can see how the coastline and properties line up in the drone shots.

Around the lobby, a couple little details stood out:

• A cigar store with cigars from all over the world (if you’re into that, make time for it)
• The Golden Bar, which is this resort’s version of the Martini Bar. Drinks were great, but the vibe felt quieter than some other Excellence properties.
• A lounge called Glow, nightclub-style. It didn’t seem to be open during our stay, so if nightlife matters to you, ask what’s currently operating.

Pools: this is where Finest Punta Cana starts to show its personality

Finest Punta Cana has that “there’s a pool for whatever mood you’re in” layout.

The main family pool is active and fun, and it’s built for kids. There’s a big inflatable blob they climb on all day, a splash area, and a swim-up bar for the adults.

This is also the one place where I’d say: claim your chairs early if you want prime real estate.

Now, let’s talk about the pool that I didn’t expect to love as much as I did.

The Excellence Club pool (adults-only) was so quiet it was almost jarring. I’m not exaggerating when I say I counted maybe six couples out there most days. Just water sounds, a book, a drink, and space.

Keep that in your head. I’m going to come back to it at the end, because it changes who this resort works for.

The beach: beautiful setup, lots to do, and yes, we need to talk about seaweed

The beach is set up similarly to the pools: there’s a dedicated Excellence Club section, a non-club middle section, and a Finest Club section.

Because we were in an Imperial Suite, we had a reserved beach bed numbered to our room, ready every day. That kind of consistency sounds small until you’re on day three and you realize you haven’t had to play the “where are we sitting today?” game once.

Activities-wise, there’s plenty happening: kayaks, banana boat rides, boogie boards, sailing, beach volleyball, even a batting cage. And you can order lunch without leaving your chair (we did nachos and quesadillas one afternoon and I regret nothing).

Now for the honest part: sargassum.

Sargassum is that brown seaweed that washes up on Caribbean beaches. In June, it was heavy. The staff worked hard, tractors out there daily, but I won’t sugarcoat it, we had some rough beach days.

Food: more options than you’ll finish, and some surprisingly fun dinner experiences

There are 14 dining options, and the big theme here is variety.

A lot of long-time Excellence guests will recognize menu favorites, and I actually like that. It’s comforting in the best way. I already know which dishes I’m going to be happy with.

Two quick access notes:

• Dommo is for Excellence Club and Finest Club guests, and it’s adults-only.
• Gusto is Finest Club, and kids are welcome.

If you’re not club level, don’t worry. You still have tons of choices.

The Market Kitchen buffet is the unsung hero for families

The buffet is called The Market Kitchen, and it’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

That dinner piece is huge for families. It means you can feed picky eaters early, then still do a nicer adult dinner later.

The spread was genuinely impressive, and I have to call out one detail: the pizza here was the best we’ve had at any Excellence Collection property. Made-to-order, hot, and actually delicious.

Parents, you’ll love the kid-specific setup:

• a dedicated kids section with smaller, familiar foods
• a little play area so they can stay busy while you build your plate

Dommo and Gusto: two club-level favorites

Dommo was a highlight for us, especially because we did the wine pairing dinner included with our Imperial stay. Candlelit, multi-course, sommelier walking you through each pour… it felt like a “real” dining experience, not just resort dinner.

Also, Dommo does a sit-down breakfast, which is a nice little upgrade if you’re club level.

Dress code heads-up because this catches people off guard:

At Gusto, we had a great meal (and yes, dessert was involved). It’s one of those places I’d happily repeat.

The “show” dinners: fun, included, and you should reserve immediately

This is where Finest Punta Cana stands out.

There are interactive dinners that feel like a full event, and they’re included. You just need reservations.

• Lizo (Comal experience): Mexican show-cooking on a comal griddle. Fun for adults and totally doable with kids who can sit through a longer dinner.
• Melting Pot: Pan-Asian with experiences like Korean grill and wok-style cooking. We did the Korean grill and they fed us like we were a family of six.
• Shoji: Sushi and also the spot for Teppanyaki reservations, which tend to fill quickly.

My practical advice: make your reservations right when you check in, especially for Teppanyaki.

Casual bites you’ll actually use

• Las Dunas (beach lunch) was perfect for a “let’s not go far” day.
• Food trucks are great for quick snacks during the day and near entertainment at night.
• Sweet Corner for coffee, treats, and ice cream when you need a second wind.

And yes, there were restaurants we didn’t make it to this trip. That’s the honest truth of it. The ones still on my list for next time: Brass (steakhouse), Duke’s (seafood), Insieme (Italian), Le Petit Plaisir (French), Surf & Turf, plus Legends (sports bar and hangout).

One small design note: because the resort has a long central building, you’ll notice you sometimes have to walk around the long way to get from one side to the other. Not a dealbreaker, just something you feel by day four.

The kids club is one of the best setups I’ve seen

Even though I left my boys at home, I toured ImagineKidsZone, and it’s genuinely impressive.

It’s big, thoughtfully designed, and it covers a wide range of ages:

• Baby/toddler area where parents stay with the little ones (plus a nap area)
• Drop-off club for ages 3 to 11
• Indoor play zones, games, and outdoor splash areas
• Nighttime kids theater
• Kids buffet at lunch and dinner

The detail I think parents will love most: there are staffed kids stations near some restaurants, so you can drop the kids nearby and have dinner together without trekking across the resort.

Hours matter too, and these are strong: 10:00am–5:30pm and 6:30pm–10:00pm.

OneSpa: gorgeous, and the hydrotherapy circuit is still my favorite ritual

OneSpa is beautiful, and we took full advantage of it.

Because we stayed in an Imperial Suite, we had unlimited hydrotherapy access, but you still need to reserve your time slot, so don’t wait until the last minute.

We also did the Diamond Ritual, which is tied to Diamond status in the Excellence rewards program (not the room category). It included a body scrub and a relaxing back and head massage. If you’re trying to understand how that status works and whether it’s worth chasing, ask me. A lot of travelers are closer than they think.

I also loved seeing:

• the bridal suite area for wedding groups
• a sweet mommy-and-me spa area that makes this feel like a true family property

Entertainment: this is where I’m a little more “meh”

We saw a mix of acts (violinist, pop singer, circus show, and yes, a Madonna show).

None of it was terrible, but compared to other Excellence Collection resorts, it wasn’t our favorite week of entertainment.

Two notes:

• Shows can rotate between nearby resorts, so split-stay travelers might see repeat performers.
• The Madonna show felt like a questionable match for a family resort. If you’re traveling with kids and you’re picky about evening content, just be aware.

We also noticed more smoking around the evening gathering areas than we’ve experienced at some other Excellence resorts. That could have been crowd-dependent, but I’d rather mention it than have someone surprised.

Rooms: what you book changes your whole experience

I toured a couple room categories that I know people consider, and then I’ll tell you about the suite we stayed in.

Two rooms worth knowing about

• Excellence Club Beachfront Honeymoon Suite (adults-only side): around 950 sq ft, plunge pool, and a romantic layout. Quick tip: the “garden view” version can have some view obstruction from trees and nearby restaurant structures.
• Standard (non-club) Swim-Up Suite: around 800 sq ft. These face toward the gardens, which can make them feel quieter and more private.

The Imperial Suite we stayed in (and why I loved it)

We stayed in the Excellence Club Imperial Suite with Plunge Pool, and it’s spectacular.

It’s about 1,750 sq ft including the balcony, with a separate living room and bedroom, oversized shower, soaking tub, and a massive closet.

But the balcony is the star. Oceanfront, private plunge pool, daybed, seating. It became our favorite “cancel plans and just be” spot.

Imperial perks that actually feel like perks

Imperial guests get elevated service beyond standard club benefits, including:

• A butler/concierge you can text
• Help with restaurant reservations (even though most dining is typically first-come)
• Reserved beach setup
• Unlimited hydrotherapy access
• Wine pairing dinner at Dommo
• Complimentary laundry
• Day pass (with transport) to Excellence Carmen Punta Cana next door
• One hour of in-suite barman service
• Imperial Deluxe Breakfast
• Extra arrival touches like Moët

Also: there’s a family-side Imperial Suite option in Finest Club that’s around 2,500 sq ft with two bedrooms, which is a big deal for families who want that top-tier space.

So… who is Finest Punta Cana actually for?

This is the part I care about most, because the resort can be amazing or just “fine” depending on who’s traveling.

Adults traveling without kids (my biggest surprise)

Remember that quiet Excellence Club pool?

If you’re an adult couple and you book Excellence Club, you can have an almost adults-only feeling vacation inside a family resort. I didn’t expect that.

You’ll cross paths with families at meal times and during evening entertainment, but if you:

• hang at the Excellence Club pool and beach
• lean into adults-only dining
• grab beach lunch or room service when you want to stay in your bubble

…you can keep the vibe surprisingly romantic.

My recommendation: if you’re going without kids, book Excellence Club, full stop.

Families with young kids

This is an easy yes.

The kids club setup, the splash areas, and the buffet being open for dinner is exactly what makes a family all-inclusive vacation feel effortless instead of exhausting.

One big room note: the true family suites here (with an actual second bedroom and twin beds) were booked out the entire week. That tells you everything. If you want one, reserve early.

If you want the adults in your group to have access to the quieter adults-only side too, Finest Club is usually the move.

Families with teens (where I’m more on the fence)

I’m going to be candid: this is the group I hesitate on.

There isn’t a dedicated teen program, and the water areas are much more “little kid” than “teen thrill.” Teens can absolutely enjoy pools, beach, sports, and Legends (sports bar, arcade, pool tables), but if your main goal is keeping teens entertained from breakfast to bedtime, cruises often do that better.

There’s also a booking catch that matters a lot for teen families: kids 13+ are counted as adults, and you cannot book four adults in one room. So two parents plus two teens often need two rooms.

This is one of the best uses of this resort.

I love the built-in structure:

• Couples and grandparents book Excellence Club (quiet, adults-only areas)
• Families book Finest Club
• Adults from Finest Club can still access Excellence Club spaces, so the grown-ups can sneak away while kids are at the club

And when everyone wants to be together, you can be. That’s the magic for weddings.

If you’re looking at 5+ rooms, group rates may be available, and the smartest first step is simply locking in the inventory before it disappears.

The bottom line

Finest Punta Cana isn’t perfect.

• Summer sargassum can be rough
• Entertainment was hit-or-miss for us
• Restaurant layout can mean extra walking
• Not a standout for teens

But it gets a lot right: modern luxury feel, great dining variety, excellent rooms, one of the strongest kids club setups I’ve seen, and an adults-only section that feels far more peaceful than you’d expect.

The key is matching the resort and room category to the kind of trip you’re actually trying to have.
