I just stayed there for the first time, and I walked away thinking, “Yep. This is why people get obsessed with Beloved.”

What makes Beloved different (and why that matters)
Beloved Playa Mujeres is not just “a smaller Excellence.” It’s its own vibe.
Here’s what stood out to me immediately:
- It’s boutique and intimate. No big groups, no weddings, no chaotic pool scene.
- It’s couples-only, and it really feels like it.
- There is no Club vs. Non-Club experience. Everyone has access to everything.
That last point is huge. If you’ve stayed at other all-inclusives where you’re constantly debating whether you need to upgrade for the “best” access, Beloved is a breath of fresh air. You don’t have to play the tier game here.
During our stay, we were told the resort was running around 80 to 90% occupancy, and I still never felt like I was battling for space. It stayed peaceful the whole time, which is honestly rare.
Arrival and first impressions: smooth and welcoming
I’m picky about arrivals because it sets the tone. Beloved nailed it.
From landing at Cancun airport to getting into our Seasons transfer took about 30 minutes. We did carry-on only, which helped a lot. Then it was about a 40-minute ride to the resort.
When we arrived, staff greeted us as “family,” handed us a cold towel and champagne, and sat us down to check in. It’s that signature Excellence Collection hospitality that makes you feel like vacation starts immediately.
The beach: the star of the show
If you’re a beach person, Beloved is going to make you very happy.
The beach is wide with a big stretch of sand between the loungers and the water. It feels open, never cramped. And since Playa Mujeres is a gated area, there were zero beach vendors during our stay. That alone can be the difference between “nice beach day” and “I actually relaxed.”
Beach setup and service highlights:
- Multiple options: loungers, lounge beds, and cabanas (extra cost)
- Cabanas run about $60 to $90
- Fantastic beach team service (we were truly taken care of every day)
- Kayaks and sailing included, with jet skis and parasailing available for extra
One honest note: we had no problem finding seats most days, but on our final day, chairs filled up by midday. If you’re the kind of traveler who wanders down to the beach at noon, you may want to plan ahead during high occupancy.
We visited in December. The water was a bit chilly for us, but the ocean was gorgeous and we had no seaweed at all.
Pools: plenty of space, but know what’s heated
Beloved’s pool scene matches the rest of the resort: calm, pretty, and quiet.
Here’s the practical breakdown:
- The main pool was not heated during our December stay and felt very cold
- The hot tub off the main pool was heated and we used it a lot
- There are two swim-up pools, plus hot tubs (hot tubs were heated, pools were not)
- Lounger availability was generally good near buildings 2 and 3
There’s also a small splash-style pool near the taco truck that no one used while we were there. It felt more like a design feature than a “hang out here” spot.
Food: no reservations and some real standouts
I get asked about food constantly, and I’ll say this: Beloved makes it easy.
No restaurant reservations. It’s first come, first served. I love that because it keeps your trip flexible and stress-free. Just check the Excellence Collection app since not every restaurant is open every night.
El Mar: best restaurant at the resort
El Mar is right on the beach, and for us it was the clear winner. Fresh seafood, great flavor, and that oceanfront ambiance you want on vacation.
A few favorites we had:
- Peruvian ceviche, tuna tataki, octopus tostada
- Tuna carpaccio (top dish of the trip)
- Boiled lobster (seasonal note: lobster not available April through June)
This was the only restaurant where we saw a real wait. If you do run into one, grab a drink at La Isla bar nearby and enjoy the view.
Lupita Steakhouse: solid and satisfying
Great setting, but note the dress code: men need long pants.
The steaks were tasty and well-prepared. Not “best steak of your life,” but definitely a good dinner choice with strong appetizers and good sides.
Le Bisou: good food, quieter vibe
Le Bisou is French and also requires long pants for men. For us, it was our least memorable meal, not because it was bad, but because the room felt very quiet and we were tired that night. It’s also where the breakfast buffet is served.
Casual wins: taco truck and Caffetto
- Bocadito taco truck: made-to-order tacos, perfect casual lunch
- Caffetto: gelato daily for us, plus frozen coffee and a cronut-style pastry you should absolutely try
Room service: surprisingly fast
This deserves its own mention. Room service arrived in 15 to 20 minutes for us, which is faster than I’ve experienced at some larger resorts.
The spa: included hydrotherapy for everyone
This is one of my favorite Beloved perks.
At some other resorts, complimentary hydrotherapy is tied to a higher room category. Here, hydrotherapy is included for all guests, which is such a nice touch for a couples-focused, recharge-style resort.
If you’re in the Excellence Collection rewards program, certain perks apply. We’re Diamond Rewards members, and we received a spa ritual (back scrub and massage). The savings can really add up. We saved $370 on this short stay alone.
Renovated rooms: what I’d book and why
If Beloved Renovated rooms are your priority, listen closely because room choice matters here.
We stayed in an Ocean View Terrace Suite with Plunge Pool, and I’m so glad we did.
Ocean View Terrace Suite with Plunge Pool (renovated and amazing)
These suites feel fresh, modern, and updated, and the terrace is massive. It’s the kind of room where you actually want to spend time in your private space, not just sleep and shower.
Highlights:
- Huge terrace with a heated plunge pool, daybed, loungers, and an outdoor shower
- Beautiful renovated design and modern furniture
- Smart room controls (including a “good night” button)
- Pillow menu (yes, use it)
One tip: if your plunge pool temperature is off, call the front desk. Ours went from not-heated to very heated overnight, and they adjusted it within minutes.
Casitas (not renovated yet, but prime location)
Casitas are steps from the beach and pool and come with private pools, but they are not renovated yet.
We were told renovations are expected to start mid-2026, likely one building at a time after high season. If you care most about updated design, I’d lean Terrace Suite or renovated categories for now. If you care most about being barefoot and on the beach in 60 seconds, the Casita location is hard to beat.
Junior Suite with Round Jacuzzi (renovated value pick)
This is a great “sweet spot” room: updated feel, private jacuzzi, and a more accessible price than the big terrace categories.
Penthouse Suite (renovated and over-the-top)
We toured a renovated Penthouse Suite, and it’s Beloved’s version of an “Imperial” style top category. Massive space, premium bar, and upgraded perks.
One thing I love: Penthouse guests get a day pass to another Excellence Collection resort nearby (Finest Playa Mujeres, Excellence Playa Mujeres, or Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres). That’s such a fun way to add variety to a longer stay.
Entertainment and nightlife: quiet on purpose
If you want shows, parties, and a packed martini bar every night, Beloved is not the best match.
Beloved is intentionally low-key:
- Small daytime activities (crafts, ceviche making, fitness classes, bingo)
- Evening music at Lupita Lounge (instrumentalist, singer)
- More “relax and reconnect” than “nightlife and energy”
And honestly, I think that’s why it works. Beloved is a resort for couples who want to exhale.
What’s not included (so you’re not surprised)
I always like to set expectations clearly. Here’s what you should budget extra for:
- Spa treatments beyond included hydrotherapy and any rewards perks
- Premium wines, bottles, pairings, tastings (house wine is included)
- Cabanas
- Excursions
- Special room extras (balloons, flowers, celebrations)
Tipping is personal, but Beloved does not have a no-tipping policy. If you get great service, it’s a kind way to show appreciation.
My opinion: who Beloved is perfect for (and who should skip it)
I think Beloved Playa Mujeres is one of the best choices in the Excellence Collection for a very specific traveler.
Beloved is perfect if you:
- Want quiet, intimate, couples-only time
- Love great service without a crowded feel
- Care about booking a renovated room and having a polished, modern space
- Want a beach-first vacation with excellent food and spa time
You might want to choose a different resort if you:
- Want a social scene and big nightly shows
- Love meeting other travelers and joining group activities
- Prefer a larger property with more “things happening” all day
